Dental Implants

Missing or decayed teeth can lead to discomfort and difficulty with routine tasks, like eating or talking. Fortunately, dental implants can alleviate pain and return function to your teeth, when paired with a restoration like a crown or bridge. See how holistic dentist Patrick Tanner at South Ogden Smiles in Ogden, UT, can restore dental function with dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

/

Dental implants are durable titanium or ceramic screws designed to replace tooth roots and secure dental restorations in place. They ensure that bridges, crowns, or dentures remain stable, giving you a gorgeous new smile.

See How Dental Implants Can Transform Your Smile

While missing and damaged teeth can cause pain and stress, there is a solution: dental implants. When paired with a restoration such as a crown or bridge, implants can return functionality and beauty to your smile.

Consultation

Dr. Tanner will go over your dental history, discuss dental implants with you, and tell you about your options for replacement teeth at our comfortable South Ogden office. During this time, feel free to ask him questions about every step of the implant process.

Implant Placement

For your implant placement, we will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon conveniently located across the street from South Ogden Smiles. They will carefully place your implant in just one visit.

Osseointegration

You will need to wait about four to six months to allow your implant to fuse with your jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. Once your implant is part of your anatomy it will stay firmly in place, keeping your restoration and abutment secure, too.

Abutment

Before you can have a restoration placed, your dentist will place a connector called an abutment on the implant. The abutment will rest above your gumline, held in place by the implant in your jawbone. Once your abutment is secured, you will likely need about four to six weeks to heal.

Restoration

Our dentists will attach your restoration to the abutment and implant. We offer a variety of solutions for tooth loss, like dental crowns, bridges, and dentures, which are created with materials that are safe for your body. They're carefully crafted in a lab, where they are hand-finished so they are indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Dental implants offer stability and dependability.

A Closer Look At Dental Implants

Because dental implants fuse with your jawbone, they ensure that your restoration will be held firmly in place. This makes eating, talking, and smiling finally feel natural and comfortable again.

Whether you are missing one tooth or several teeth, dental implants can secure your stunning new dental restoration.

Exploring the Possibilities Provided by Implants

Implants are an effective dental solution for teeth replacement because they can support dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures.

Crowns

Our crowns are durable restorations that are made from safe materials like zirconia. While traditional crowns can cover and protect a damaged tooth, implant-supported crowns completely restore a single tooth and are held securely in place with a dental implant.

Bridges

If you are missing multiple teeth in a row, you may benefit from a dental bridge. Implant-supported bridges are used to replace up to three consecutive teeth. They consist of several crowns that have been fused together and are held firmly in place by zirconia or titanium implants.

Dentures

For those missing all or most of their natural teeth, dentures can be revolutionary. They can replace multiple areas of tooth loss, one arch, or both arches of teeth. Implant-supported dentures are an effective solution because they secure your dentures in your mouth. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures won't slip out of place or fall out so you can eat and speak with confidence.

How Long Do Implants Last?

Typically, you can expect your zirconia or titanium implant to last your entire life. As long as you take care of it properly, it will not need replacement.

Your zirconia restorations will need periodic replacement over the years, but can often last over a decade when cared for properly. Fortunately, you can rely on South Ogden Smiles to refine your smile and replace your restorations when necessary.

How To Take Care Of Your New Dental Implants

Brush Twice a Day

While you no longer have a natural tooth, your mouth can still be affected by bacteria buildup. Keep your mouth and new restoration clean and beautiful by brushing your teeth, tongue, and gums twice a day.

Floss Daily

Flossing is crucial for good gum health. It can remove food particles and prevent plaque buildup, maintaining your oral health and allowing your restoration to have a firm foundation.

Attend Regular Cleanings

Cleanings with our dentist in Ogden, UT, can eliminate plaque and tartar buildup, alleviate gum irritation, and allow for early cavity treatment. Our South Ogden practice also stands out among the rest, because we use ozone dentistry for safe, effective care.
